Below you'll find our Weekly Huatulco Weather Report. This is an amateur effort to give people an idea of what the weather is like here. It is of my personal perception of the weather and diving conditions over the last week and it is certainly not a prediction! Weather Report # 126. Week: 14 - 21 October 2007

Weather

Daytime highs: 29°C / 32°C (84°F / 90°F)

Minimum temperature: 26°C / 27°C (79°F / 81°F)

It was a week with typical September weather: The first few days it was sunny and dry, but after that we had a low pressure system over the Golf of Tehuantepec. We had the first light rain shower on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning it rained lightly for several hours. It stayed overcast al day and in the afternoon we had another little shower. Thursday was overcast all day and it was pretty windy, but we had no rain. Friday morning we had some scattered clouds and it was calm again, in the afternoon the sun came through. Saturday was overcast again all day and we had some light rain in the afternoon and the evening. Sunday it was pretty much sunny and dry all day.

All in all a week with some sunny days, some overcast days and with some light rain a couple of days.

Diving Conditions

Ocean: Varied this week, it was calm during the first few days of the week, but Wednesday through Friday the port was closed, although it wasn't very rough. The second half of the week we did have some current and surge underwater.

Temperature: It went really up and down this week. Most days it was the normal 27°C / 28°C (80°F / 82°F), but Thursday and Friday we had a cold current coming in and it went down to around 22°C (71°F) in shallow water and only 17°C (62°F) a bit deeper! Luckily by Saturday it was back to normal.

Visibility: Between 7m / 10m (20ft / 30ft). It was probably less at certain sites....

The cold current we had this week brought loads of rays to Violin Bay, as happens every year when the water cools off a bit. They'll probably leave again now the water temperature went back up and come back later in the year. We saw a 1.5m (5ft) Nurse Shark in Violin Bay as well. Ken caught it on video, but because of the low visibility you can barely see it. I'll put the video up in our Video Gallery anyway, hopefully later today.

Hurricane Season

There was no tropical cyclone activity in our area this week.

Outside our area: Tuesday Tropical Depression 15E developed into Tropical Storm "Kiko" off the coast of Manzanillo and a long way from Huatulco. It's still out there on the Pacific, South of Baja California.
