Hurricane Divers News
In May we did our first Prep Program for people who want to become a PADI Instructor. The program consisted of the Medic First Aid Course, Rescue Diver Course and the Divemaster Course which we did in 9 days. We all had a lot of fun during this program and the two participants successfully completed the program and will enter in the PADI Instructor Development Course we will be starting the 6th of June.
So far we have 4 candidates and a candidate for the IDC Staff Instructor Course so if you are interested in doing your Instructor Development Course with us (in Spanish!), there is still space and time to register.
For more info on the different courses click on Courses or visit the PADI website at www.padi.com
The same week we also had a professional photographer with us, Mauricio (more on him below under "The Bays of Huatulco"), who helped us out taking a huge amount of pictures, under and above the water, to use for our promotion. Keep an eye out for lots of new and professional photo's in this website!
We heard from a few people that they had troubles getting into our website, if you have any problems with Netscape Navigator try it with Microsoft Internet Explorer (or the other way around). If that does not work please let us know.
.
DAN & Dive Safety:
DAN is coming out with more and more (course) materials in Spanish. This allows us to service our Spanish speaking divers even better. If you are interested in any of the DAN Courses we offer in Spanish and other languages, please contact us by e-mail. Let me remind you that we can schedule (almost) any course at any time convenient for you.
DAN has further extended their service to Mexican DAN Members, it is now possible to order DAN Materials like Oxygen Kits here in Mexico.
For more info on DAN go to: www.DiversAlertNetwork.org or send us an e-mail.
.
Diving Huatulco:
Two weeks ago Natanael and his buddy Luis were lucky enough to dive with a Whale Shark of approximately 18ft/6m in the Bay of Maguey. Natanael: "that was really fabulous, diving with a Whale Shark is definitely an experience you remember the rest of your life. Even more so for Luis for whom it was only his second dive in his life!". We also saw big Manta Rays twice in May and again some big pods of dolphins coming by.
People often say you have a better opportunity to see magnificent creatures like these diving from a Live Aboard or in the open ocean but, here in Huatulco we have a huge amount of dive sites nearby, full of marine life and in every one a real chance to encounter something spectacular. On one of our dives, for example, we found about 50 specimens of nudibranches all together in an area of 15ft/5m by 15ft/5m. You see: in Huatulco anything can happen!
In the month of May we had a very nice water temperature of 86ºF/27ºC and in general a good visibility. The last week the visibility was a bit less due to the rough seas caused by hurricane "Aletta" but right now (31st of May) it is all back to normal again. Because of "Aletta" the marina of Santa Cruz was closed for 1 day but all the other days we went out diving and were able to provide our normal interesting and beautiful dives.
The Bays of Huatulco:
Recently the 12th National Oceanography Congress took place her in Huatulco, with many projects and presentations, oral as well as in photos and posters. One of them, "The Importance of Photography in the Taxonomical Identification of Invertebras and Vertebras en our Oceans", was done by Mauricio Pellotier, professional photographer, biologist and diver. He hopes to create a cataloque of marine species that exsist en Mexican waters. We had the opportunity to assist mauricio in getting as many photos as possible of the local aguatic organisms. Tuvimos la oportunidad de apoyar a Mauricio para que realizara el mayor número de fotos posibles de los organismos locales. While Mauricio was wprking on that, we had the opportunity to show the exposition he had during the congress in Hurricane Divers. It consisted of a serie of underwater photos with a brief explanation about the organisms shown.
In May Yvonne and Roberto attended a seminar by Julio Roberto Sancci, "Servicio Total", organized by American Express and the local Convention and Visitors Office, "Fondo Mixto de Promoción". The program called "Juntos Podemos" ("together we can") and the objective was to learn how bussinesses that work in turism can improve their customer service. It was interesting and hopefully all participants will be able to implement some of the good ideas and that way improve the overall customer service in Huatulco.

Calendar for June:
Roberto has planned an IDC (Instructor Development Course) for the 6th until the15th of June. We already have several candidates but there is still space. If you are interested, contact us so we can send you the information. During the same time it is also possible to do an IOC or your PADI Assistant Instructor Course. After the IDC we plan to do further Instructor Level Courses, which you can also participate in as an PADI Assistant Instructor, like the PADI Medic First Aid Instructor Course and the DAN Oxygen Instructor Course as well as Specialty Instructor Courses.
.
"Los Amigos":
With our Dive Club "Los Amigos" we plan to finish the PADI Scuba Diver Course we are currently doing and start a new one. Saturday the 24th of June we will do the confined water training dives in the afternoon and the following Sunday we go diving. Sunday all certified members are welcome to join.
Sunday the 4th of June there will be another Beach Clean-Up covering all the Bays of Huatulco, organized by Pedro Gasca of "Turismo Bioetico y de Aventura". Help us keep Huatulco clean and join us at 08.00 am in front of the chapel in Santa Cruz.

The pictures you see here were taken by Mauricio and show Roberto, Gerardo and Jorge during the Divemaster Course and at the hand out of their diplomas. This moment marked the successful completion of our first Prep Program for future IDC Candidates. You can see the happiness (and relief) on the faces of everybody after they passed their last exam of this intense 9 day program. Congratulations again: Gerardo & Jorge! I am sure we will be able to show you more happy faces after the completion of our first IDC next month!
