Hurricane Divers News
First of all I want to thank everybody for their positive reactions on our website. It shows that we are on the right track. Thanks for all the help, comments and tips. Keep sending them!
Since a few days we have a link with the PADI Website, so hopefully a lot more people will read this now.
DAN & Safety:
This month we received our recognition as an official DAN Partner in Dive Safety. For this we have to comply with a list of safety requirements like: taking an Oxygen & Medic First Aid Kit on every dive trip, have our staff trained and prepared for emergencies, use an Emergency Plan, do Dive Briefings and positive Roll Calls and follow basic safety rules like doing Buddy Checks and Safety Stops. Since safety is our prime concern we are very proud to be one of the few recognized Partners in Dive Safety from DAN. For more info on DAN and go to: www.DiversAlertNetwork.org
We also did DAN Oxygen Provider and Oxygen Instructor Courses this month. They were both very successful programs and Natanael is now also a DAN Oxygen Instructor!
.
Dolphins & Whales:
Over the last couple of weeks we have seen lots of dolphins and whales migrating. Overtime you see those wonderful animals it is a feast for the eyes, imagine the people we took out that saw them for the first time. On one outing it was really spectacular: thousands and thousands of dolphins kept passing us by on the way to the dive site, some of them came over to investigate our boat and play a bit in the bow waves and then hurried back to the group, a truly incredible experience!
.
The Bays of Huatulco:
For the first time in Huatulco we had a "Half Iron Man" and it was a big success. After everybody had completed the swimming, bicycling and half a marathon, most the contestants commented that it had been very hard because of the temperature (more than 30ºC) and the hills in the different routes, but that made it all the more rewarding to finish. All of the contestants that came diving or snorkeling with us said it had been very well organized, with a nice folkloristic party the next day, and they all want come back next year. Positive news for Huatulco, I would say.
.
Calendar for May & June:
Roberto has planned an IDC (Instructor Development Course) for the 6th until the 15th of June. We already have several candidates but there is still space. If you are interested, contact us so we can send you the information. During the same time it is also possible to do an IOC or your PADI Assistant Instructor Course. After the IDC we plan to do further Instructor Level Courses, which you can also participate in as an PADI Assistant Instructor, like the PADI Medic First Aid Instructor Course and the DAN Oxygen Instructor Course as well as Specialty Instructor Courses.
In May we are offering a preparation program for people interested in doing their Instructor Course or in becoming a PADI Divemaster. The program consists of the PADI Medic First Aid Course, the Rescue Diver Course and the Divemaster Course. The dates for this program are the 19th until the 28th of May. After the program we also offer the DAN Courses Oxygen Provider and First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries, a must for every responsible diver! It is possible to inscribe for part(s) of the program, just send us an e-mail if you want more information.
..
"Los Amigos":
With our Dive Club "Los Amigos" we plan to finish the PADI Scuba Diver Course we are currently doing. Saturday the13th of May we will do the last confined water training dive in the afternoon and Sunday morning we go diving in the ocean. Sunday all certified members are welcome to join in!

The 3 pictures on this page were given to me by Gerardo & Vicky showing us underwater during the dives for their PADI Scuba Diver Course in March 2000. Top left you see us doing exercises on the first Open Water Training Dive (I think Gerardo is getting ready to take his regulator out) and top right is a shot of the underwater scenery at the dive site "El Chelo" were we did some of the dives. Below is a picture of Gerardo & Vicky on the surface, snorkeling in "La Entrega". Thanks very much for the pictures Gerardo and thanks to both of you for the nice time we had, diving and afterwards!
