Introduction

Allow me to introduce myself: I am Isidro Cruz, I came to Huatulco when I was seven years old, over 35 years ago. I have been a fisherman all my life and I have been taking people fishing for more than 20 years now.

It will be my pleasure to take you fishing, whether you would like to troll for Sailfish or prefer bottom-fishing for Red Snapper. The best time to go out is early in the morning, at 7:00 am and we usually get back at 11:00 am. We can stay out longer, that's up to you. I provide water, soft drinks and beer during the trip and I am more than happy to pick you up from your hotel in the morning.

In general we catch & release. However, if you decide to bring back a Tuna or a Dorado for your own consumption, no problem. Many restaurants will gladly prepare it for you, usually for a small charge or in exchange for the fish you can't eat yourself. If you would like to prepare it yourself, I will fillet it for you if you wish.

Below you can find information about the fish you can catch here in Huatulco, the best time of the year to catch them and my equipment.

  • Dorado (Mahi-Mahi)

Equipment

I have large assortment of equipment to catch any type of fish that you may encounter in our coastal area. My equipment is PENN International. It is all in good condition and well maintained and I regularly buy new equipment to keep up to date.

I use a variety of lures, as well as bait. I have monofilament of 25 lbs to 70 lbs, I generally use 60 lbs or 70 lbs.

For trolling I use PENN Intl. 50 SW reels (03, 06, 09) and I have a wide variety of PENN rods of various models and sizes available.

For bottom-fishing I also have many different reels and rods available.

Boat

My boat is the "Paty" and she is a 25 ft "panga". It is licensed for 10 passengers, but for fishing I normally take 4 passengers maximum.

She has a 60 hp Yamaha outboard engine and a 40 hp outboard as a back-up. I have GPS on board, as well as a compass, a radio, a cell phone and life jackets. I also bring coolboxes for the drinks and for fish you would like to bring back to shore.

She has a little sunroof to provide some shade.
