Deep Sea Fishing is a very popular activity here in Huatulco. Several times a year there are fishing tournaments with contenders from all over Mexico and abroad. The most popular fish being caught here are, amongst others, Marlin, Sailfish, Dorado (Mahi-Mahi) and Yellowfin Tuna. In general catch & release is practised here, however, you can bring back fish for your own consumption. Many local restaurants will gladly prepare it for you.

There are two ways you can go out fishing; with a "panga", a small boat all the locals use, or with a yacht, which is bigger and more luxurious.

• Roosterfish

• Crevalle & Amber Jack

• Bonito

• Wahoo

From June to October is the best time for:

• Dorado (Mahi-Mahi)

• Sailfish

• Blue & Black Marlin
