This month Huatulco celebrates the 200 years of independence of Mexico with the "Fiestas Patrias". They start Saturday the 11th and last for a week, until Saturday the 18th.

Like Guatemala we had quite a bit of rain lately, however we didn't get any problems with flooding, at least not in Huatulco. The last two days have been clear, hot and sunny!

Mexicana has halted all operations and canceled all flights. This cam into effect yesterday, Saturday, August 28. Sounds like they will file for bankruptcy.

Apparently Mexicana has been bought by a group of Mexican investors: Tenedora K. They bought 95% with the remaining 5% will go to the Pilots' Union.

Tropical Storm "Frank" is located about 140 miles/220 kilometers South of Huatulco. It's not expected to make landfall here, but we'll have a few days with wind and rain.

We saw this Whale Shark from the boat a few weeks ago. Blaise jumped in the water with a mask and a camera and managed to take some photos of it.

After celebrating our 10th anniversary in September, we are up and running again. Both dive centers are open and operational and ready for the coming high season!

From July 8th to 22nd you can try sky diving in Huatulco! They offer a "tandem-jump", which means you jump hooked up to an Instructor. No experience needed. Price: around $200 USD.

Tropical Storm: "Andres" became a hurricane yesterday for a short while. It is now downgraded to a tropical depression. It didn't affect Huatulco much except for some rain and choppy seas.

So far, the rainy season was pretty sunny and dry. The last few days it has been raining tho, mostly due to a system that now developed into the first Tropical Storm: "Andres".

As from today our dive center is closed until October 1st. We can still take you diving or snorkeling though, as long as you book in advance, preferably by email.

It's sunny and hot, 33ºC/92ºF today. Yesterday, late afternoon, we did have a little rain shower. Water temperature has gone up and is now 28ºC/82ºF, very nice.

Fishing Tournament                                                               18-May-09

Arianna, Aracely, Valerie, Natty, and Jane are the Pink Team and participated in the fishing tournament last weekend. Their motto is: "Size does matter!". In the photo also Captain Tocha.

The Eastern Pacific Hurrican Season 2009 officially started today. Basically that means the rainy season has begun as well. Both will go on until October.

Musica por la Tierra                                                               13-May-09

Friday and Saturday, May 29 and 30, the 16th edition of the "Musica por la Tierra" festival will take place here in Huatulco. One of the bands performing will be "Los Amigos Invisibles".

Yesterday afternoon we had the first rain this year! It was only a few drops, not even enough to wet the streets, but rain is rain. It's very hot and humid this time of the year, nearing the rainy season.

Sunday my sister and her family went on a snorkel trip. They encountered many Giant Manta Rays. They couldn't take any underwater photos, on the left you see one taken from the boat.

Saturday and Sunday, May 16 and 17, the "Club de Pesca Deportiva Huatulco" organizes their 17th annual International Sailfish Fishing Tournament. First prize: $170,000 Pesos!

Yan has left and is back in Wales. He won't be coming back next season, because he is planning to do a commercial diving course. All the best Yan and hope to see you again one day!

Our dive shop in Tangolunda is now closed until October 1st. We will close our dive shop on Santa Cruz for the summer as well, probably at the end of May.

We're seeing the first effects now: flights to Mexico are being cancelled, as well as port calls in Mexico by cruise ships. We are now receiving cancellations for the next few weeks....

To my knowledge there has been no cases registered in Huatulco or the vicinity, up until today. People don't seem too worried, although you do see some people walking around with masks.

Today an earthquake occured near Acapulco. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. The quake was originally registered as 6.0, but was adjusted to 5.6 later.

AeroMexico is starting two daily flights from Mexico City to Huatulco and vice versa. The flights leave Huatulco at 12:15 hrs. and 17:20 hrs. The service starts July 1st.

From April 24 to 26 Carnaval Huatulco will take place. Some roads will be closed on Saturday and Sunday, most importantly Blvd. Chahue (Super Che, Naval Hospital, Gas Station, etc.).

A little later then normal, but we finally saw the first Humpback Whales this season. They usually migrate during December to March and we regularly get to see them.

The East Pacific hurricane season is officially over. We had below average storm activity, with only 16 tropical storms, of which 7 became hurricanes with 2 major hurricanes.

We saw this 5m (15ft) beauty last week during a dive at the dive site "Suzy's Cove". Mike, a diving Instructor from Switzerland, managed to get about 3 minutes of video of it.

November 29 and 30 the second National Danzón Festival will take place in Huatulco, at three different locations. Danzón is Cuban dance style, similar to the "Habanera".

Nine Bay Swim                                                                    18-Nov-2008

Luis, from Los Portales, achieved his goal of swimming across all nine bays of Huatulco. He did this last Saturday, November 15, in a time of 5 hours and 24 minutes.

Friday and Saturday, October 24 & 25, Bar Camelot organizes a real German Oktoberfest as part of the "Week of German Culture", which takes place this week in Huatulco.

Saturday and Sunday, October 25 & 26, a national and an international triathlon are planned to take place in Huatulco. As every year, several roads will be closed off for these events.

Tropical Storm Odile brought rain almost continuously for a day and a half here in Huatulco. At the moment she is roughly 200km/125 miles South of us, moving to the Northwest.

The Cruise Ship season has started again. There will be about 10 a month coming to Huatulco until May 2009. We have a schedule up in our website for those interested in it.

The rainy/hurricane season is almost over. We didn't have much effects from tropical storm systems, however the season seemed wetter than the last few years.
