PADI Open Water Diver Course Details

Course Duration - 4 to 5 Days

Preparation / Self Study                                                                            8 - 10 hrs.

  • Watch the 5 Modules of Open Water Diver Course Video

  • Read the 5 Modules of Open Water Diver Manual and answer the Knowledge Reviews

Note: Manual and Video are also available on CD-ROM and DVD

Knowledge Development                                                                                4 hrs.

  • Review the 5 Knowledge Reviews with your Instructor

  • Complete 4 Quizzes and Review them with your Instructor 

  • Attend Knowledge Development Presentations (if applicable)

  • Complete Final Exam

Confined Water  or Pool Training                                                               6 - 8 hrs.

  • Complete Confined Water Training Modules 1 - 5

  • Complete 10 minute Float

  • Complete 200 meter Swim

Open Water Training                                                                                 8 - 10 hrs.

  • Conduct 4 Open Water Training Dives

Example Schedule

Without preparation and over four days. When you book with enough time in advance, we can get you the materials to prepare for the course. We are flexible and will adjust a schedule when appropriate. We will spend all the time with you, that is needed to complete a course.

  • First Day

  • 09:30 - 12:00 ---- watch video

  • 12:00 - 15:00 ---- confined water training dives

  • In your own time - read manual and answer knowledge reviews

  • Second Day

  • 09:30 - 11:00 ---- watch video

  • 11:00 - 14.00 ---- confined water training dives

  • 14:00 - 15.00 ---- review knowledge reviews and do quizzes

  • In your own time - read manual and answer knowledge reviews

  • Third Day

  • 09:30 - 14:00 ---- open water dives 1 & 2

  • 14:00 - 15.00 ---- review knowledge reviews and do quizzes

  • In your own time - read manual and prepare for exam

  • Fourth Day

  • 09:30 - 14:00 ---- open water dives 3 & 4

  • 16:00 - 18.00 ---- final exam

Course Prerequisites

To enroll in a PADI Open Water Diver Course, an individual must:

  • Be able to swim

  • Be at least 10 years old

  • If applicable, submit, to the instructor, medical clearance for diving signed by a physician, attesting to fitness to dive. The medical clearance must be current within the previous 12 months. The physician signing the medical clearance cannot be the applicant.

Note: a person under 15 years of age will be certified as a Junior Open Water Diver
