PADI Divemaster Course Details

Course Prerequisites

To enroll in a PADI Divemaster course, an individual must:

  • Be certified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent rating.

  • Be certified as a PADI Rescue Diver or equivalent rating (If a candidate with an equivalent certification demonstrates poor or inadequate performance during the diver rescue assessment, then the candidate must complete a PADI Rescue Diver course).

  • Be at least 18 years old at the start of the DM training.

  • Submit, to the instructor, medical clearance for diving signed by a physician, attesting to fitness to dive. The medical clearance must be current within the previous 12 months. The physician signing the medical clearance cannot be the applicant. (The RSTC Medical Statement is useful and recommended for this purpose unless local requirements specify other documents.)

  • Have completed and logged at least 20 dives as documented in the individual’s log book. 

Note: To be certified as PADI Divemaster the candidate must:

  • Satisfactorily complete all course performance requirements.

  • Show proof of at least 60 logged dives showing experience in night diving, deep diving and underwater navigation.

  • Show succesfull completion of Medic First Aid and CPR Courses within 24 months prior to the certification date.

  • Read the PADI Membership Agreement and License Agreement prior to signing their application.

And the certifying Instructor must:

  • Submit a completed, signed Divemaster Application to the appropriate PADI Office along with the required photo, application fee, and equivalent certification documentation (if applicable). Upon approval of the application, PADI will issue a PADI Divemaster card.

PADI Assistant Instructor Course Details

Course Prerequisites

To enroll in a PADI Assistant Instructor course, an individual must:

  • Be certified as a PADI Divemaster or leadership level with another diver training organization.

  • Be at least 18 years old.

  • Submit a Medical Statement for a diving medical examination conducted within the past 12 months. A licensed physician must sign the form and state that the candidate is fit for diving. The physician signing the medical clearance cannot be the applicant. (The RSTC Medical Statement is useful and recommended for this purpose unless local requirements specify other documents.)

  • Have completed and logged at least 60 dives showing experience in night diving, deep diving and underwater navigation as documented in the individual’s log book.

  • Submit proof of CPR and first aid training within the last 24 months.

  • Submit documentation of any equivalent certifications for entry-level, advanced, rescue and leadership-level issued by another recreational diver training organization. (PADI Members who have these records on file at PADI do not need to resubmit.)

  • If not a PADI Divemaster, successfully complete the PADI Divemaster course dive rescue assessment.

Note: To be certified as PADI Assistant Instructor the candidate must:

  • Satisfactorily complete all course performance requirements. 

And the certifiying Course Director or IDC-Staff Instructor must:

  • Submit a completed, signed Assistant Instructor Application to the appropriate PADI Office along with the required photo, application fee, and equivalent certification documentation (if applicable). Upon approval of the application, PADI will issue a PADI Assistant Instructor card.

  • Be certified as a PADI Assistant Instructor or as a current instructor member in good standing with another recreational diver training organization for at least six months.

  • Be at least 18 years of age.

  • Submit medical clearance for diving signed by a physician, attesting to fitness to dive. The medical clearance must be current within the previous 12 months. The physician signing the medical clearance cannot be the applicant. (The RSTC Medical Statement is useful and recommended for this purpose unless local requirements specify other documents.)

  • Have been a certified diver for at least six months and have completed and logged at least 60 dives showing experience in night diving, deep diving and underwater navigation. 

  • Submit proof of CPR and first aid training within the last 24 months.

  • Submit documentation of any equivalent certifications for entry level, advanced, rescue and leadership level issued by another recreational diver training organization. (PADI Members who have these records on file at PADI do not need to resubmit.)

Note: To be certified as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, an individual must:

  • Successfully complete a PADI IE (Instructor Evaluation) conducted by a PADI Instructor Examiner.

And to attend an IE, the instructor candidate must:

Course Prerequisites

To enroll in a PADI Specialty Instructor Training Course, an individual must:

  • Be a renewed PADI Assistant Instructor (certified/upgraded since 1995).

or

  • Be a renewed PADI Underwater Instructor (or PADI Instructor with a higher rating).

or

  • Have completed an IDC/OWSI Program within the past 12 months.

and

  • For some Specialty Instructor ratings you need to be certified as a Specialty Diver for the particular specialty area. 

Note: To be certified as a PADI Specialty Instructor after taking a Specialty Instructor Training Course, an individual must:

  • Have satisfactorily completed all course performance requirements.

  • Have made at least 10 dives in the particular specialty area (except for the Equipment Specialist Instructor rating. There are some Specialties for which you need to have made at least 20 dives).

  • Submit to the appropriate PADI Office a completed application signed by the PADI Course Director who conducted the training along with a photo and the application fee.

Notes:

  • After successfully completing specialty instructor training, PADI Assistant Instructors may apply only for PADI Specialty Instructor certification in nondiving specialties.

  • Instructor candidates may apply for PADI Specialty Instructor certification only after becoming certified as PADI Instructors.

  • If you take a Specialty Instructor Training Course from a Course Director you don't have to certify at least 25 divers to any level to show experience in diving instruction, as you have to if you apply directly to PADI without taking the course.

  • Have succesfully completed Medic First Aid Training within the last 24 months

  • Be a current DAN Member

Note: To be certified as a DAN Instructor, the candidate must:

  • Have succesfully completed the DAN Instructor Qualification Course

  • Submit to DAN a completed application signed by the Instructor Trainer who conducted the training with copies of the required certifications and documentation and the application processing fee

PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer Prep. Program Details

Course Duration - 3 to 4 Days

Example Schedule

Without preparation and over 4 days. When you book with enough time in advance, we can get you the materials to prepare for the course. We are flexible and will adjust a schedule when appropriate. We will spend all the time with you, that is needed to complete the program. The schedule may vary according to the specific specialties you´ll be doing and the amount of dives they require.

  • 09:30 - 14:00 ---- specialty training dives

  • 15:00 - 17:00 ---- presentation by staff

  • Second Day

  • 09:30 - 14:00 ---- specialty training dives

  • 15:00 - 17:00 ---- presentation by staff

Course Prerequisites

To enroll in a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer Preparation Program, an individual must:

  • Be a renewed PADI Assistant Instructor (certified/upgraded since 1995).

or

  • Be a renewed PADI Underwater Instructor (or PADI Instructor with a higher rating).

or

  • Have completed an IDC/OWSI Program within the past 12 months.

and

  • For some Specialty Instructor ratings you need to be certified as a Specialty Diver for the particular specialty area. 

Note: To apply for the Master Scuba Diver Trainer rating, an instructor must:

  • Be a renewed PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.

  • Be certified as a PADI Specialty Instructor for five or more specialty ratings. (Peak Performance Buoyancy, Project AWARE and AWARE - Coral Reef Conservation do not count toward the required five.)

  • Have issued at least 25 PADI Diver certifications. No more than five of the 25 certification may be from nondiving courses.

  • Submit to the appropriate PADI Office a completed Master Scuba Diver Trainer application with a photo and application fee. Upon approval of the application, PADI will issue a Master Scuba Diver Trainer certification card.

PADI IDC Staff Instructor Course Details

  • Complete Instructor Dive Theory Exam

  • Complete Assistant Instructor Standards Exam

  • Present Confined Water Teaching Presentation

Knowledge Development                                                                            6 - 8 hrs.

  • Attend 4 Knowledge Development Presentations by Course Director: Course Orientation, ID Standards and Procedures, Conduct PADI AI Course and Evaluation and Counseling

Practical Application                                                                                4 - 12 Days

  • Evaluate at least 3 Knowledge Development Teaching Presentations by Instructor Candidates

  • Evaluate at least 3 Confined Water  Teaching Presentations by Instructor Candidates

  • Evaluate at least 3 Open Water Teaching Presentations by Instructor Candidates

and

  • Audit the complete IDC by observing all 20 required IDC Curriculum Presentations. This means all presentations, by Staff and Candidates

or

  • Present all the Presentations of the Assistant Instructor Course Curriculum while being evaluated by the Course Director

  • 09:30 - 18:00 ---- audit IDC and evaluation training

Course Prerequisites

To enroll in a PADI IDC Staff Instructor course, an individual must:

  • Be a renewed, Teaching status PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer.

  • Agree to conduct all PADI certification courses and experience programs using methods consistent with PADI Standards and philosophy as outlined in the PADI Instructor Manual.

  • Agree to use the PADI System and components in its entirety.

Note: To be certified as a PADI IDC Staff Instructor, an individual must:

  • Satisfactorily complete all course performance requirements.

  • Submit to the appropriate PADI Office a completed IDC Staff Instructor Application signed by the PADI Course Director who conducted the course, along with  a photo and application fee. Upon approval of the application, PADI will issue a PADI IDC Staff Instructor card.
